Lent 2 B + Live Whole-hearted + 3.1.15

Campbell-Langdell All Santos, Oxnard (Gen. 17:1-7, 15-16; Ps. 22:22-30; Rom. 4:13-25; Mark 8:31-38) Hear some words from St. Clare of Assisi: "Live without fear. Your creator loves you, made you holy, and has always protected you. Follow the good road in peace, and may God's blessing remain with you always." [1] How foreign these words seem, next to Jesus’s from today’s gospel: “Those who are ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of them the Son of Man will also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels” (Mark 8:38). But are these two statements at odds with each other? The more I pray on them, the less I think they are. Campbell-Langdell All Santos, Oxnard (Gen. 17:1-7, 15-16; S. 22:22-30; Rom. 4:13-25; Marcos 8:31-38) Unas palabras de Santa Clara de Asís: “Viva sin miedo. Tu creador te ama, te ha hecho santo, y siempre te ha protegido. Sigue el buen camino en paz, y que la bendición de Dios pertenezca contigo para siempre.” [1] Estas palabras parecen tan extrañas al lado de las palabras de Jesús en el evangelio de hoy: “Pues si alguno se avergüenza de mí y de mi mensaje delante de esta gente infiel y pecadora, también el Hijo del hombre se avergonzará de él cuando venga con la gloria de su Padre y con los santos ángeles” (Marcos 8:38). Pero, ¿son opuestas  estas frases? Are these two statements, one talking about living without fear, and the other warning us not be be ashamed of God, are these two at odds?
