Fully Alive in God

This week, I was chatting with a group of friends, and one of them was going through a difficult time, though there were some joys mixed in. I said I would be in prayer, and she said, “God is good.” And it made me think of that old chestnut: God is good, all the time! (Say it with me again if you know it: God is good, all the time!) It also made me think of this poem by Kaylin Haught, a former poet laureate. Esta semana yo estaba hablando con unas amigas clérigas y una de ellas estaba pasando por un momento medio bueno y medio difícil. Y dije que lo sentía y que estaría en oración. Ella me replicó: “Dios es bueno.” Y me hizo pensar en lo que dicen en algunas iglesias: si lo conocen, dígalo conmigo: Dios es bueno todo el tiempo. Campbell-Langdell All Santos, Oxnard Easter 2 A + 4/12/26 ( Acts 2:14a,22-32 ; Psalm 16 ; 1 Peter 1:3-9 ; John 20:19-31 )   “O the beautiful treasures Laid up for the wise O how precious the values How glorious the prize Far brighter than diamonds On princes' brow (Beautiful treasures) And richer than royalty can bestow…” Thus goes a song performed by Amanda Seyfried and written Daniel Blumberg for the recent film “The Testament of Ann Lee” (2025) by Mona Fastvold, which chronicles the life of Ann Lee, one of the founding members of the Shaker religious sect. Please note that the film is not suitable for children and includes some violent or graphic scenes. This said, it does celebrate female religious leadership even as it problematizes some of the challenges the community faced, both without and within, through its unconventional take on Christianity.
