Eduardo Solomon Rivera tells a story about today’s scriptures,
specifically about the epistle. Eduardo Solomon Rivera comparte una
historia sobre la lectura de la epístola de hoy. Él dice que
“Una maestra de baile les
enseñaba a sus estudiantes ejercicios para que se hicieran fuertes, para
mejorar el equilibrio, la postura, y su forma de bailar. Les enseñaba los pasos
correctos del ballet que preparaban para su primer recital. Se había preparado
la música y ya estaban listos los disfraces que llevarían los niños y las
niñas.
There was a dance teacher who taught her students exercises
to make them strong, to improve balance, posture and their dance form. She
taught them the correct steps of a ballet that they were preparing for their
first recital. The music was ready and the costumes were ready for the children
to wear.
En esta ocasión bailarían dos
grupos. En uno de los grupos había alumnos que no practicaban fuera de la clase
como se les pedía. Inclusive, pensaban que ellos lo sabían todo, interrumpían,
y no dejaban que el resto del grupo se concentrara.
On this occasion, two groups would dance. In one of the
groups there were students who had not practiced outside of class as was
requested. They also felt that they knew everything, they interrupted, and they
did not let the rest of the group concentrate.
En el otro grupo, por el
contrario, los estudiantes trabajaban mucho. Practicaban como la maestra lo
pedía, prestando mucha atención a sus instrucciones.
In the other group, however, the students had worked hard.
They had practiced just as the teacher had asked, and had given much attention
to the instructions.
Cuando llegó el día del
recital, el escenario estaba listo. Al fondo se había pintado un bello jardín
con flores de muchos colores alumbrado con luces brillantes y variadas. Los
músicos afinaban sus instrumentos y llevaban lindos trajes hechos con mucho
esmero por las madres de los niños y las niñas de la escuela de baile.
When the day of the recital came, the backdrop was ready. On
the background was painted a beautiful garden with multicolored flowers and lit
with different, brilliant lights. The musicians tuned their instruments and
wore handsome suits made with care by the mothers of the children at the dance
school.
Cuando el segundo grupo entró
en el escenario, bailó con gracia y aplomo. Se notaba lo mucho que habían
trabajado y lo bien que seguían de cerca las instrucciones y el liderazgo de su
maestra.
When the second group came on stage, they danced with grace
and aplomb. You could tell how much they had work and how well they followed
the instructions and guidance of their teacher.
El primer grupo no lo hizo tan
bien. Algunos tropezaban y perdían el equilibrio por no haber practicado fuera
de la clase y a otros se les olvidaban los pasos. Ellos se veían perdidos
mientras que los que creían que se lo sabían todo llamaban la atención haciendo
caras e inventándose pasos fuera de la coreografía que se les había enseñado.
Fue un caos impresionante. Al final los que siguieron las instrucciones de su maestra
se sintieron muy contentas de su logro, mientras que los otros se echaban la
culpa unos a otros y a la maestra por no haberles enseñado bien. Parece que a
este grupo le hacía mucha falta aprender cómo trabajar en grupo y sobre la
importancia de seguir al líder indicado—en este caso a la maestra. Cuando
pertenecemos a un grupo, tenemos la responsabilidad de trabajar juntos para
lograr la meta que tenemos en común.
The first group didn’t do as well. Some tripped and lost
their balance for lack of practice outside of class and others forgot their
steps. They looked lost while those who thought they knew all the steps called
attention to themselves pulling faces and inventing steps that weren’t in the
choreography that they had been taught. It was total chaos. At last those who
followed the instructions of the teacher felt very content in their success,
while the others blamed each other and the teacher for not teaching them well.
It seems that that group had a lot to learn about how to work as a group and about
the importance of following the chosen leader- in this case the teacher. When
we belong to a group, we have the responsibility of working together to reach
our common goal.”[1]
When I read this story, I could not help but think about how
all groups work together. Cuando leí esta historia pensé en
como los grupos funcionan juntos, especialmente en la iglesia. As a church, are we organized and
doing our homework, following our leader’s example, that is the example of
Jesus? ¿Somos Buenos
para trabajar juntos y escuchamos el mensaje de nuestro maestro quien es Jesús?
I think sometimes we priests are the worst. I recently read a
book called Extraordinary Leadership, and despite the title the author, Roberta
Gilbert, affirms that priests are important leaders but just one in a team at
church. La autora menciono que los pastores deben funcionar
como parte del equipo de su iglesia.
Y fui recordado de esto cuando
distribuí el formulario de retroalimentación sobre la estación de Navidad hace
un par de semanas. I was
reminded of this when I distributed the form about feedback about Christmas and
Advent a couple of weeks back. I got a few forms, and almost all mentioned that
it would be helpful to have more congregational involvement in certain special
services. Me pidieron más participación en la planeación de
ciertas misas especiales, como Posadas y como La misa para honrar la Virgen de
Guadalupe.
This was very helpful for me. Because I didn’t realize that I
was acting as a lone ranger trying to plan everything to save everyone else the
effort. Esto me ayudaba porque me dio cuenta de que a veces yo
trato de planear a todo y no pienso en involucrar a los demás.
A veces yo olvido que somos un
cuerpo más grande. Sometimes
I forget that we are part of a bigger body.
And it is that body which we celebrate today, the church. Es
el cuerpo que celebramos hoy, la iglesia. Pedimos a Dios que tengamos fortaleza
y mas equilibrio, y para esto, tenemos que hacer nuestra tarea, es decir, leer
las sagradas escrituras, y practicar en la vida en común como cristianos para
poder bailar bien ante nuestro Dios.
We pray that we might have strength and balance, and for this
we must do our homework of reading Holy Scriptures and practice in our common
life as Christians so that we will be able to dance well before our God.
And what a joyous day that will be! Y ¡que día
gozoso será!
