Fully Alive in God

In today's gospel, we encounter something completely unexpected. I understand from farm folk I know that there is a danger that weeds can grow alongside with wheat. But usually the seed is cleaned before planting, and thereby farmers control their crop. In fact, a nun I know said that one of her favorite memories of her farm-girl childhood was when the workers came to clean the seed. They set up camp in the back yard and cooked and everything out there, a self-contained unit. She loved to watch them. If they neglected to clean the seed, it would grow up alongside kinds of weeds and mustard. Which is interesting because the parable we skipped in the middle of today's passage and hear next week is about how faith is like a mustard seed.  But today the gospel is not about cleaning the seed to avoid having weeds grow in with y...

Entiendo de gente agrícola que si hay miedo de que hierbas malas salen con el trigo, pero usualmente se limpia la semilla antes de sembrarla, y en este acto controla el miedo de sembrar hierbas malas junto al trigo. De hecho, una monja quien conozco decía que una de sus memorias favoritas de su juventud en el campo fue cuando los trabajadores vinieron a tomar la semilla y limpiarlo. Ellos hicieron un campamento detrás de su casa y cocinaron y todo. Ella le encantaba mirarlos. This means that many times, after I have read over our lectionary readings for the coming Sunday, I quickly begin to form a little of what I will say. If often takes a little while longer to read comments or sometimes translate a portion of scripture or otherwise deepen my message but this expedience is a special help in a bilingual congregation wherein I work almost double the usual time on my sermon because I always translate it, too! Si, muchas veces toma un tiempecito más en leer comentarios o a veces traducir una parte de las escrituras o de otra manera profundizar mis ideas, pero muchas veces siento un poco de lo que yo creo el Espíritu quisiera que yo diga en poco tiempo.
